Tony Boylan is a guitarist and singer songwriter - based in Dublin and recently moved to the leafy glades of county Wickow. His unique guitar style is influenced by artists as Tommy Emmanuel, Laurence Juber , Joe Satriani and Preston Reed.
He's been playing with many artists such as Wally Page and Tom Kearns on and off for the last 20 years.
The CD live at the Hatch recorded at McEvoy's Hazelhatch, manages to capture the true live guitar and vocal sound. ( January 2008)
Other regular gigs round the city and Dublin county include the Annesley House North Strand, Ballyknockan Inn and the Blue Gardenia.
Tony, Wally and Etain Murphy were commissioned to write music for RTE's Hidden History series,''Duffy's Cut''first aired in January 2007. This is the opening track of the new Live at the Hatch CD.
Tony describes his playing style as melody - energy - and subtle blasts of rock, jazz and classical thrown in for good measure.
Tony's writing skills extend to a full length comedy play titled Benny Kelly's Belly, which was staged in 3 Dublin theatres Andrews Lane, The Teachers Club, and O'Neills of Smithfield. ( directed by Antoinette Duffy)
When not playing guitar Tony turns his hand to scripting short stories and writing poetry and was recently featured on RTE Radio 1's Sunday Miscellany.
Overseas Charity Activist .....
The proceeds from Tony's first album Life's the Teacher helped fund two charities based in India - Edith Wilkins Calcutta Street Children's Foundation based in Calcutta and Darjeeling in northern India.and rehousing 30 families, victims of the 2001 Gugarat earthquake, into a newly constructed village named "Tara" named after Tara Browne, the brother of the right honourable Garech Browne of Luggala, Roundwood, County Wicklow . Tony travels to India annually and is "hands-on "ensuring that monies raised are spent to the maximum benefit of the street children's drop-in and night shelters.
